There was a ticket report about the issue from the first post in this thread (#36261 (`icontains` lookup doesn't work with case insensitive collations) – Django), where @charettes has shared how Postgresql 18 may provide LIKE support for nondeterministic collations. It’s unclear at this point how/if we are going to incorporate that, but any further discussion and agreement should ideally happen in this forum post.
