Hi, I want to contribute to the django project.

As we know new HTTP method - QUERY has been added. I was wondering if I could be of any help in integrating that to the django.
I am clueless right now and need some mentoring on where to start.

UPDATE: Someone already suggested this - [Add support for the HTTP QUERY method (RFC 10008) · Issue #185 · django/new-features · GitHub](https://github.com/django/new-features/issues/185)

Thanks

Samarth Tyagi

Hi Samarth,

It’s great that you want to contribute to Django—everyone starts somewhere.

Since you’re new, I wouldn’t begin by writing code immediately. I’d first spend some time understanding how Django currently handles HTTP methods.

A good approach would be:

- Look at how methods like `GET`, `POST`, `PUT`, `PATCH`, `DELETE`, `HEAD`, and `OPTIONS` are implemented in Django (`django.http`, request handling, and generic views).
- Read through RFC 10008 so you understand exactly how `QUERY` differs from existing methods and what behavior Django would need to support.
- Clone Django, run the test suite locally, and get familiar with the development workflow.
- Search the codebase for places where allowed HTTP methods are defined (for example, class-based views, decorators like `require_http_methods`, middleware, and request parsing).
- Then take a look at the GitHub issue that was opened for this feature. If nobody has started working on it yet, leave a comment saying you’d like to investigate or work on it. The Django community is usually happy to provide guidance if you’ve done a bit of homework first.

Even if implementing full support feels overwhelming, you can still contribute by:

- researching all the places that would need changes,
- proposing a design,
- improving documentation,
- or writing tests once the implementation starts.

Small contributions are valuable too. Good luck—I hope your first Django contribution goes well!
