Hi community,

My name is Siyi (it can be pronounced as “CE”), and I am a CS student at USC. I want to be an open-source contributor and attend GSoC 2023. So, I’m trying to get more familiar with Django and start contributing now to develop a better proposal next summer.

I’m currently going through the contributor doc. Could you give me some advice on where to dive into the source code and some good first issues? Ready to get my hands dirty!

Best,
Siyi

Hey Siyi

Do try the first patch tutorial: [Writing your first patch for Django | Django documentation | Django](https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/intro/contributing/)

“Easy” first issues are rare, because there are so many people looking for them. I would advise looking through tickets in raears of Django that you’re excited about, to see if anything looks good for you.

Thanks,

Adam
