I started writing code in the mid-80s, but didn’t meet SQL till some years later. I’ve ended up hacking together so much stuff over the years with PHP and SQL and bash and other such uglies (C++, VBA, Delphi, back when 32-bit ints where for the larger numbers…) and I was faced with a truth I came to see in recent years:
- Either carry on doing what I can knock out quickly and productively in areas I know well,
- Or, save my very soul and finally actually learn Python along with everything that goes with it.
Seriously, what was I thinking, wasting all those years chucking PHP down in haste to get jobs done? I must have been mad! Safe to say, Python and Django are much happier places to exist – even if bending my brain to a completely new landscape is uphill work at times. The views on the way up though are worth it…!
