GSoC 2026: Switch to Playwright tests for integration testing - Proposal Draft

Hello everyone,

My name is Samman Gupta, an AI and Data Engineering student, and I am preparing a GSoC 2026 proposal for the “Switch to Playwright tests for integration testing” project.

I have my local Django development environment fully configured and have successfully executed the existing test suite via SQLite. I am currently mapping out the integration points between Django’s existing CI infrastructure and the Playwright Python API.

My proposed approach focuses on a phased migration to ensure test reliability isn’t compromised during the transition. Before I finalize my 12-week timeline timeline, I would appreciate the mentoring team’s insight on one architectural detail:

Are there specific legacy Selenium tests (e.g., within the admin module) that the team considers the highest priority or highest risk for the initial proof-of-concept migration?

I want to ensure my initial deliverables align tightly with the core team’s immediate testing needs.

I look forward to your feedback.

Best regards,

Samman Gupta
