Using Django inline formset in the same way django admin does.

I need to use the inline formset in a custom view, in the same way they are used in the admin views. I would like a button at the end of the table that “adds” more rows dynamically, and for each of this rows, have the “cancel” button, to remove the row if I wish. See image for more details.

After hours of trying and searching for existing solutions, I have found some that are incomplete, and that I have not been able to adapt them either. I also realized that the magic in the admin site comes from this javascript code.

Could someone tell me what I should change or adapt? Thank you.

It might be helpful if you described what isn’t working. What’s not happening that you’re expecting to see happen? (Or, what’s happening that you don’t want to have happen?)

What errors are you seeing either on the server or in the browser’s console?

Have you worked with formsets before? Are you comfortable with how they function?

I’m starting my first steps using formsets, and I’m not yet an expert in django. But I’m trying to get this feature out and I’m still not able to. Looking for how it is done in the admin site (django framework), I noticed that what I want is achieved mainly using that javascript code. I tried to include it directly in my project, and the error I had was the following:

What I need is some help to point me in the right direction. Thank you very much for attending.

This is a jQuery-related issue and doesn’t have anything directly to do with either Django or formsets. This error is telling you that you don’t have the jQuery library loaded and initialized on
this page - at least not in the same way that Django loads it for the admin.

Once you’ve loaded jQuery on your page, you can remove the const $ = django.jQuery line as jQuery typically registers itself on the page as $.

I would suggest you take a step “sideways” and do some reading and exploring of jQuery before you try to adapt this code to your project. Once you get a bit of understanding of how jQuery works, you’ll be in a lot better position to make the adaptations needed for your specific application. See How jQuery Works | jQuery Learning Center as a first starting point.
