What does "merged with the **`distribute`** fork" mean?

I’ve been reading Advanced tutorial: How to write reusable apps, and it says:

For this tutorial, we’re going to use setuptools to build our package. It’s the recommended packaging tool (merged with the distribute fork).

What does “merged with the distribute fork” mean?

I suspect distribute and setuptools split and merged at some point the past. distribute is a package on pypi from 2013. I think we should remove that line :grin:
