Couldn’t agree more, but I’d broaden things. The Steering Council need to take ownership of the end-to-end contributor journey. Or leave it to the Board if they don’t think it’s their remit. From people using Django for their first time and having feedback or an idea, to leadership positions.
I made the point in a forum discussion a year ago that we need to be more respectful of people’s time. The roadmap is one thing but there’s also the thousand cuts. Can’t tell you how gut-wrenching it feels when you work with a newcomer on a great bug report and you hit Trac’s spam filter, which thinks you’ve just been a bit too thorough with your linking to relevant resources.
Anyway, we’ve announced our 6.x Steering Council elections now and that’s the clearest opportunity for people who want to change this and have the requisite time and energy available. And we also have our live 2024 Django Developers survey with more questions than in past years about ideas to evolve Django.
