Hi Django Community,
My name is Noorie Garg, and I am a final-year Computer Science student at College of Engineering, Roorkee. I am passionate about web development, and I’ve been working with Django, Python, and React.js for some time now.
I am extremely interested in contributing to the Django project as part of Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2025. Having followed Django’s development for a while, I am excited to be a part of the community and help improve the framework.
What I Have Done So Far:
- Developed a web-based eCommerce website using Django (in progress).
- Worked with React.js and Node.js on a real-time chat application.
- Familiar with Python, Django ORM, and RESTful APIs.
I am reaching out to request mentorship for GSoC 2025 and guidance on how I can effectively contribute to Django. I’d like to start by working on beginner-friendly issues and eventually take on larger tasks as I gain more experience.
Goals:
- Begin contributing to Django through smaller tasks to build up experience.
- Learn the internal workings of Django and contribute to its growth.
- Collaborate with the community and help improve Django documentation if possible.
I would be grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction or recommend any resources to help me get started. I am eager to be a productive member of the Django community and look forward to learning from all of you!
Thanks so much for your time and consideration!
Best regards,
Noorie Garg

Hi everyone!
Its really great to see that so many people are interested in Google summer of code 2025 with Django!
I am a past contributor and mentor and would be happy to share my insights on preparing for GSoC, specifically with Django Software Foundation.
For First time contributors:
For existing contributors:
-
If are a contributor to django already, I’d suggest going through Django’s 2025 project list: SummerOfCode2025 – Django, If any project catches your interest, do some research around it, create a draft proposal and if you want feedback (recommended) from community and potential mentors, feel free to open a new topic in the forum.
-
If you are not sure of the format of the proposal, you can refer to my proposal from 2023.
-
You can find a lot of things in the official django docs itself but if you are looking for more there you can search in the forum itself by keywords. There has been a lot of discussion around django and its internal in the forum in the past. Also, DjangoCon US youtube channel and DjangoCon EU Youtube channel contains a lot of technical talks around django (I personally find them very helpful).
If you are interested, you can also read my GSoC 2023 blog: GSoC'23 with Django

Hi everyone. We removed a few projects from the wiki because we don’t have mentors for them. Without that, it’s hard for someone to support the project and answer questions.
Those projects are:
- Security: Bring CORS and CSP into core
- Improve the Database Cache Backend
- Configurable Content Type Parsing
The projects that say “2024 Mentor”, are being checked if we have volunteers to mentor. We appreciate your patience.
- Auto-detection of custom migration operations
- Expand django-stubs coverage
