GSoC 2026 Contributor Introduction – Sameer Gupta

My name is Sameer, and I’m currently a 4th-semester engineering student at NSUT. I’m really excited about the opportunity to contribute to Django for GSoC 2026!

I have a solid background in web development and a strong interest in database management, particularly working with SQL and relational schema design. Because of this, I’m especially interested in exploring and contributing to Django’s ORM, though I am absolutely open to working on other parts of the framework where help is needed.

I’ve already started reading through the Contributing Guide and am currently getting my local environment set up. As I get familiar with the internals, could anyone point me toward the official GSoC 2026 ideas list (if it’s published yet) or recommend a few good starting areas/tickets for someone looking to make their first contribution?

Thank you for your time, and I’m looking forward to learning from and working with this community!

Best regards, Sameer

Welcome @sam-eer12 !

The best reference for getting started is posted at Google Summer of Code 2026 with Django | Weblog | Django

(There are a lot of links in there for further information, including the link to the new-features repository.)

Also read the blog post at Getting Started Contributing to Django · Better Simple (Among all the other useful information, there’s specifically a section with resources on finding appropriate tickets.)

Hi Ken,

Thank you for the warm welcome and for pointing me in the right direction!

I will definitely go through the GSoC 2026 weblog and the “Better Simple” guide to get a better understanding of the process and find appropriate starting tickets.

I’ll start working through these resources now. If I run into any roadblocks or have specific questions along the way, I’ll be sure to reach out right back here in this thread.
