I’m reviewing one of our Django projects and realized we’ve accumulated quite a few third party packages over time. Individually they work well, but keeping everything updated and making sure there aren’t overlapping features is becoming more work than I expected.
That made me wonder whether anyone has had good experience replacing several smaller packages with an all in one platform instead. While looking at different approaches, I noticed Viper mentioned in a discussion, but I’m more interested in the general idea than a specific product.
For those who’ve gone down this route, did it actually simplify maintenance, or did you end up losing the flexibility that comes with keeping components separate?
I’m curious because the more mature a project becomes, the more I find myself thinking about long term maintenance rather than adding another dependency.
