HealthTrack: Real-time hospital patient monitoring with clinical anomaly detection

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on as part of my bachelor’s thesis, a hospital patient monitoring platform. It simulates patient vital signs, monitors them against clinical reference standards, detects potential anomalies and notifies medical staff through real-time warning and critical alerts. The project is designed to explore how healthcare data management systems work and how real-time patient monitoring and clinical anomaly detection can be implemented in a web app.

Key Features

  • Manage patient admissions and medical records with last name search
  • Generate continuous vital signs (Heart Rate, SpO₂, Temperature, Respiratory Rate, Blood Pressure) tailored to individual physiological profiles
  • Evaluate clinical deterioration risk using authentic NEWS2 scoring
  • Track vital sign trends through real-time telemetry charts and historical measurement logs with live stream pause controls and column sorting
  • Receive instant audio alerts for abnormal vital signs, single beep (440Hz) for warning, double beep (880Hz) for critical with per-patient mute controls
  • Brute force login protection with rate limiting

Tech Stack

Built with Django, WebSockets, Redis, PostgreSQL and Bootstrap.

If you would like to explore the source code, system architecture, database schema or take a look at some screenshots and demo videos you can find everything in the GitHub repository:
