Inquiry regarding GSoC 2026: Interested in "Add support for generate_series in postgres"

Hi everyone,

I am Samara Jamal, a Software Engineering student at Damascus University. I am very excited to participate in GSoC 2026 and contribute to the Django Software Foundation.

I have a solid background in backend development, specifically with Laravel and PHP. I am well-versed in PostgreSQL and MySQL, and I have experience implementing various Design Patterns (Strategy, Structural, Behavioral) in scalable systems like Bank Management and E-commerce platforms.

I am particularly interested in the project: “Add support for generate_series in postgres”. Since I am already comfortable with PostgreSQL, I would love to help bridge this functionality into Django’s ORM.

As a newcomer to the Django core codebase, I would appreciate any guidance on:

1. Key areas in the Django ORM source code I should start exploring related to this project.

2. Any specific “Good First Issues” that could help me get familiar with the contribution workflow.
