Hi everyone!
I am karthik Over the past 2 month in this Discord, I’ve noticed that many beginners find contributing to Django challenging — especially when it comes to:

*Selecting the right tickets/issues

*Setting up Django properly in VS Code

Understanding the Django codebase

Since this is something I also struggled with, I decided to start building a Django Contribution Mentor GPT (custom gpt)inside ChatGPT.

The idea is an AI assistant that can help by:

• Reading Django contribution guidelines and docs

• Analyzing GitHub issues and tickets

• Helping understand Django source code

• Suggesting fixes and drafting documentation

The goal is to make contributing easier for beginners and support learning — not to replace maintainers or human review.

I’d really appreciate any feedback from Django community members or suggestions on what would be most helpful for new contributors.

I think this could be helpful to people who are interested in it. I think if you can build it, share it on the Show & Tell sections. You can ask for people to provide feedback on how it works. And since you said you were relatively new, you would be able to also do this.

Ah sorry, I missed that. How have you been using it? Where has it benefited you? I think providing some guidance on how to use it would help adoption by other beginners.

I gave it a go to find some tickets. It eventually was able to provide me with a few different options and a summary of what I could expect. It took me some coaxing to get it to generate that though.

I think it’s a bit verbose as well. I think there’s value in having it be concise and providing only the information needed for the given step.

I am building a tool for beginners contribution on multiple organizations especially Django would be posting about it on discord after finishing it would take another month or so.

     HOW IT  HELPFUL FOR BEGINNERS 
   
    I feed the  following data to the custom gpt 
   
      1. contribution_overview
      2. Django _resources
      3. first_contribution
      4. contribution to django 
      5. advice for new contributors 
      6. reports

It takes 2 hours 30 minutes to read all the files by using the custom gpt it take " only 30minutes" to read all the files

 If contributer has any doubt  in  contributing  it will clearly explain step by step guide
  • It is very hard to find there first ticket for beginners I also face the same problem to find my first ticket
    It will help beginners to find there first ticket easy ticket by uploading the screenshot of ticket it will help contributer to to "select ticket or don’t select ticket "

It helps beginner to setup the django contribution setup

* Clone
* Branching
* Testing
* Documenting
* Need pach and etc
* Pushing code

It will help beginners to communicate with the community in
* Discord
* Django forum
* etc
