Hi everyone!
My name is Ahmed Shammas. I’m currently a second-year BCA student from Chennai, India. I’ve been following the Django project for a while, and I’m really excited to start contributing in preparation for GSoC 2026.
On the technical side, I have a solid foundation in Python and Web Development (HTML/CSS, React, and Tailwind). I’ve also spent a lot of time strengthening my Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) and exploring basic Machine Learning. While I’m still learning, I’m confident in my ability to tackle logical problems and I’m eager to apply my skills to real-world open-source challenges.
My current plan is to:
–Set up the Django development environment on my local machine and pass all unit tests.
–Start contributing through ‘Easy Pickings’ tickets to get familiar with the codebase.
–Learn the high standards of code quality that the Django community is known for.
I’ve been reading through the contributor documentation and am ready to get started. If any mentors have advice on where a student with a mix of Web and DSA/ML interests can be most helpful, I’d truly appreciate the guidance!
Looking forward to a great summer of learning and coding with you all.
