Steering Council vote on new Releaser (Jacob Walls)

Hi all,

As recently announced, Jacob Walls has been appointed by the DSF board to be a Django Fellow.

In accordance with DEP 10, we need to vote on appointing new people as Releasers

I would like to propose that Jacob is granted the Releaser role.
This role is needed for him to perform in the Fellow position effectively.

The question the @steering_council is voting on is: “Shall Jacob Walls be granted the role of Releaser?”.

Allowable votes from Steering Council members are +1, 0, or -1, and must contain a statement as to the voter’s reasoning. We must reach +3 for the vote to pass.

Voting will be open for one week from today, so until 19th Aug 2025 at 8am UTC.

Hey @sarahboyce, thanks for opening the two related threads here. As per the previous announcement, we paused the documented voting procedure. (It’s on our agenda to begin the refresh of that process in the autumn now.)

The @steering_council have discussed and we approve both steps to have @jacobtylerwalls added to the releaser and merger teams. :racing_car:

Welcome aboard @jacobtylerwalls — we’re looking forward to working with you! :sailboat:

Jacob will need to be added to the “maintainer” role for Django on PyPI. Of the current roster of Releasers, Mariusz and I are the ones with full permissions to add new people, so if someone can get Jacob’s PyPI account info to one of us, that can be taken care of.

Thank you @ubernostrum for noticing this! Since we are here, could you please grant me permissions to manage users?

Thanks, James! My handle is jacobtylerwalls

Closing the loop: Now that it’s the weekend I was going to take care of this, but I see an email from PyPI saying Mariusz has already done it.

Thank you Mariusz and James! I do see Jacob listed as maintainer but I still do not have permissions to manage the project (I just logged in to double check).
