Hello everyone!
I would like to share with you this, my open source project that I have been working on for the last few months.
Thiup is free communication software (similar to Twitter or Mastodon), with its backend built on Django. My inspiration for this project is Twitter and 4chan; I wanted to combine elements of both platforms, blending 4chan’s anonymity with Twitter’s ease of use, to create a space that is both free and anonymous for sharing opinions.
The mission of Thiup is to provide a free and anonymous space where users can share their ideas without fear of censorship or repercussion for their opinions or way of thinking.
Would you like to contribute to the growth of this project? Below are the links to the respective repositories if you’re interested in contributing.
Your feedback is highly valued, so if you disagree with something or have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let me know :).
The link seems not to work right now, so I don’t have feedback on the site. Assuming you’re also looking for general feedback, I might consider some philosophical questions to be of particular importance with a site like this, stuff like:
- What are the tradeoffs for providing a platform of digital anonymity? On the whole, will the net outcome of its existence help or hurt society?
- Do anonymous platforms contribute to the spread of misinformation campaigns? If yes, is it the responsibility of any digital platform to do anything to ward off misinformation? If yes, to what degree?
- To what degree are sites that host the opinions of others condoning and perpetuating those opinions? (For example, let’s say a vast majority of what users add to your site is hate speech. What would the site’s philosophy be on how to respond to this kind of situation, if at all? Would doing nothing be condoning the user’s opinions? Is it possible to take any kind of action against this without censorship?)
In thinking about the above questions myself, I came across a few resources you might also be interested in looking at which I’ll drop here:
Needless to say, I’m not expecting a response to any of these questions specifically - just adding some food for thought
